Hilton Head Island is located in Beaufort County, South Carolina just north of Savannah, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 33,862. Hilton Head is 45 miles north of Savannah, Georgia, and 95 miles south of Charleston, South Carolina. The island features 12 miles of beachfront on the Atlantic Ocean and is a popular vacation destination.

The town is served by the small Hilton Head Airport on the island itself as well as the much larger Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport in Savannah, Georgia.
